Shanghai Tavern Creates Interactive Culinary Journey

November 29, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

Shanghai Tavern, The Shanghai EDITION’s all-day brasserie style restaurant and bar, is presented by Michelin-Starred Chef Jason Atherton.

Embodying The EDITION Hotels’ social Milieu, Shanghai Tavern is specially designed to celebrate the relationship between the cuisine, chefs and diners. The open-kitchen space facilitates the interactions between the chef and diners, allowing them to generate a deeper interest in the culinary arts.

Serving Shanghai Tavern’s signature dish, the Traditional British Pork Pie, in a wooden trolley, the interactive dining experience is enhanced with a personal touch. Here, guests can choose between the English piccalilli, pickled vegetables and mustard of their choice. An exquisite collection of seasonal desserts await on another cart to complete the meal.

Inspired by Berners Tavern at The London EDITION, the all-day restaurant offers a menu of modern British cuisine delicately crafted by Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton. Atherton’s recommendations include the Mac and Cheese with Red Wine Braised Beef Blade, a homey dish featuring a flavorful, seasoned braised beef blade-topped with a warm, molten cheese sauce. Guests can also choose from a range of the restaurant’s other signature menu items, including Fish and Chips and Rye Waffle with foie gras, port jelly and pickled cucumber.

Shanghai Tavern’s lunch menu is updated monthly using the freshest seasonal ingredients and innovative cooking methods to refresh the palate with a series of extraordinary culinary combinations. Apart from selecting the best ingredients, the culinary team also creatively challenge traditional palates by adding a modern twist to recipes, offering diners an elevated yet balanced meal.

Serving wine and champagne with the innovative CORAVIN™ Wine System, which allows direct extraction from the bottle without pulling out the cork, each glass is guaranteed with consistent and exceptional taste.

Guests can enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea at the restaurant, and indulge in a wide selection of desserts with an exquisite collection of teas.

Drawing on Elliot Hazzard’s architectural style and unique coffered ceiling from the 1930s, the design of Shanghai Tavern references the layers of history behind the Shanghai Power Company Building – a communal space that was designed for pocketed intimacy. A meter-high delineation point highlights the original architecture, and its transition into the newly built structure, with a grid of white marble-clad columns and beams. Occupying each grid space in between are 4.6-meter-high coffered ceilings which mark the existing historic art deco building. Below, wide banquettes and bar counters serve as elegant, multi-purpose dining, drinking, and gathering spots. A show kitchen made of brass and striped glass, including a nine-seat dining bar counter in the center of the floor plan, serves as the centerpiece of Shanghai Tavern, with a total capacity of 165: 135 main seats and 30 lounge seats.

Set within a contemporary and elegant environment, the space offers an ideal dining experience for families, friends and loved ones.
