IPC Shopping Centre Turns Green to Greener with its Annual Sustainability Initiative

April 11, 2019 By StrawberrY Gal - Event, Selangor Leave a Comment

IPC Shopping Centre is kicking off its annual green campaign to empower Malaysians to recycle and reduce waste. With IPC Recycling & Buy-Back Centre, the ‘Green Hand’ campaign calls for visitors to activate their ‘green hands’ to earn  rewards for recycling from 5 April until 31 May 2019.

Shoppers with recyclable items such as newspaper, plastic and aluminium will enjoy double rewards during the campaign. To recycle and redeem rewards, visitors are required to:

1. Bring recyclables to IPC Recycling & Buy-Back Centre, located at the carpark near Pillar 8D, Level P1. (Opens daily from 10am to 6pm – closes for lunch at 1pm to 2pm)
a. Visitors are encouraged to separate their recyclables and ensure there is no kitchen waste, food waste, contaminated materials, and disposable diapers.

2. Weigh the recyclables, receive cash and a collective receipt. (Buy-back prices are subjected to the type of materials and weight. Exact prices can be found at IPC Recycling & Buy-Back Centre)

3. Show the collective receipt(s) at the i-Counter, Level G from 5 April to 31 May 2019 to redeem Green Hand rewards:
a. Minimum 6 kg of recyclables | RM5 Popular Bookstore Voucher + Exclusive IPC Metal Straw
b. Minimum 10 kg of recyclables | RM5 Popular Bookstore Voucher + Exclusive IPC Metal Straw & Canvas Bag

Eleanor Lo, Marketing Manager of IPC Shopping Centre shared, “We received such a positive response from last year’s Recycling & Buy-Back Centre campaign; hence, we knew we had to continue it this year. Having a physical recycling and buy-back centre within the shopping centre has proved to be a convenience for many of our shoppers and neighbours. Being one of the ‘greenest shopping centres’ in the Mutiara Damansara community is something we are proud of and we wish to maintain our commitment towards a better planet.”

IPC Shopping Centre has always been passionate about sustainable living and giving back to the planet through everyday efforts. In 2009, IPC became the greenest and the first shopping centre to introduce its humble buy-back system with a proper recycling station through the launch of the Recycling & Buy-Back Centre. The recycling centre is one of the few collections points for out-of-life mercury content light bulbs and batteries. The collected bulbs and batteries go through a thorough process to ensure safe delivery to the waste management company – Kuality Alam, for proper disposal.

Besides the Recycling & Buy-Back Centre, IPC Shopping Centre has also included other touchpoints to create a sustainable living. As an effort to give back to the planet, the community-friendly centre uses energy saving lightbulbs within IPC to reduce emissions, as well as waste-specific recycle bin around the shopping centre. On top of this, the shopping centre is installed with solar panels and rainwater harvesting on the rooftop, sustainable dishwashing and cleaning system, and waste management for reducing landfill waste.

As part of the initiative, IPC will also have gardening workshops for its IPC Små Club to educate kids on using recyclable materials to create a little impact to the environment. There will also be a Green Bazaar that will offer shoppers are wide range of sustainable items they can use on a daily basis.
