Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong makes a conscious choice by expanding its environmental responsibility with Vegware, a plant-based compostable food packaging service. Launched at The Mandarin Cake Shop, this initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to a greener future.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Vegware is the global specialist that offers a sustainable solution to disposable containers that are renewable, low-carbon and recyclable. The product range is made from natural ingredients such as trees, corn, and sugarcane, that can compost with food waste and turn into fertilizer.
“Vegware is more than just packaging, it is a solution to the overindulgent use of plastic we face today. We hope to expand this to other areas of the hotel, including our event catering as takeaway options for large groups. Our goal is to raise the benchmark in sustainable hospitality standards with our carbon conscious culture,” says Pierre Barthes, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and Area Vice President, Operations.
The Mandarin Cake Shop has also introduced a campaign to reuse its packaging. Guests who purchase a tumbler will receive their first coffee or tea complimentary, bring it back and save 10% off every drink. Going one step further, guests who reuse The Mandarin Cake Shop boxes, will receive 10% off on cakes and pastries as well.
