Wrapped in Tradition at Hua Ting

May 28, 2018 by StrawberrY Gal

Hua Ting Restaurant commemorates this year’s Dragon Boat Festival with a pair of house-crafted perennial favourites – a luxe savoury Hong Kong style rice dumpling flavour and a sweet Cantonese “Kee Chang” variation. From now till 18 June 2018, guests may enjoy these top-selling customary treats available at Hua Ting Restaurant for dine-in and takeaway.

In upholding the timeless tradition of enjoying glutinous rice dumplings on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, Masterchef Lap Fai and his team of culinary mavens created a pair of perfect festive treats that stay true to tradition, yet feature a touch of luxe, each laboriously handcrafted using the finest ingredients.

Unlike most pyramid-shaped ones, the signature Hong Kong Style Rice Dumpling 香港裹蒸粽 ($32.80) is shaped like a rectangular golden pillow, and bundled with inner bamboo leaves and a lotus leaf on the exterior. This decadent delight features generous premium goodies such as whole abalone, roasted duck, roasted pork, dried scallops, mushrooms, salted egg yolk and chestnuts – a choice pick for sharing or even self-indulgence!

While newfangled rice dumpling flavours are a dime a dozen, Hua Ting reprises its well-loved classic – Cantonese “Kee Chang” with Red Bean Paste 碱水粽($6.80).  Also known as Alkaline Rice Dumpling, the rice grains are treated with lye water which gives them a yellow tint. Tuck into a golden cushion of premium glutinous rice that reveals velvety red bean paste at its core.

For reservations and takeaway orders, please call Hua Ting restaurant at 6739 6666 or email [email protected]. Prices are subject to service charge and prevailing government taxes.
