Opened its doors since 1977, Sungei Wang wasthe icon for fashion trends and local Malaysian brands, both well-known and popular among all ages. It is one of the longest running malls in Malaysia and was the epicentre of the ‘La La Culture’ in the late 70s and 80s.

‘If you have not been to Sungei Wang, you have not been to KL’ –popular phrase in the 80s

It was an entertainment paradise with an Olympic size ice skating rink, bumper cars, games arcade, discotheque hall and cinema. Sungei Wang was THE venue for fashion shows, beauty contests, artiste concerts and ‘meet and greet’ as well as festive countdowns. Sungei Wang played a huge part shaping the entertainment and fashion scene in the 80s.
New Evolution of Sungei Wang

On the 18 May this year, YB Dato’s Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Nazri, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia kicked off the 40th anniversary celebration and officiated the next evolution of Sungei Wang. Sungei Wang introduced our new brand new logo, embodying the spirit of Sungei Wang’s legacy yet reflecting the transformation of the mall to cater for contemporary tastes.

“A series of anniversary campaigns and initiatives transforming the mall had taken place. The changes are such as the giant new logo signage erected right at our Main Entrance. We have commenced the refurbishment works of our entrances.

As on-going efforts to be a tourist centric mall, Sungei Wang’s very own KL Hop-On Hop-Off ticketing kiosk and bus stop is now open for tourists to tour the KL city. Not only that, Sungei Wang’s Tourist Privilege Card is now available where international tourists can enjoy privileges from over 40 shops in the mall.” says Mr. Ng Yih Chen, Chairman of Sungei Wang Plaza Management Corporation.

“Not to miss out on the digital aspects, a newly revamped website reflect the new Sungei Wang. We even now have our very own Sungei Wang official YouTube channel.” He added. The progress of evolving Sungei Wang will be not stopped after 40th Anniversary celebration. The next phase will be modernizing of the mall including the façade of the mall. The transformation will take about 2 years and target to complete by 2019. There was a recent announcement by CapitaLand Malaysia Mall Trust, Sungei Wang’s major parcel owner, for the upgrading of their units. Relevant announcements will be given when deem fit.

With the opening of the new MRT line connecting Sungei Buloh and Kajang, it has made coming to town and Sungei Wang much more convenient. More collaboration with the MRT and monorail will be seen in 2018.

New Thematic Area ‘Malaysia’s Best’
Sungei Wang has created many new thematic areas that was also introduced during the launch. The new thematic areas are the Cubez, Level 2; Foodzania, Level 3; Blastacar, Level 5 and Culture Street at Level Concourse. During the next month in December, Sungei Wang will also be introducing their new thematic area names as Malaysia’s Best. There will be a section on every floor showcasing Malaysia’s best products from food, fruits, plants, handicrafts, services and many more. All authentic products direct from the makers all around Malaysia. Shoppers and tourist will be able to get a taste of the best in Malaysia without needing to travel far.

Sungei Wang 40th Anniversary Live Concert
After a series of anniversary celebration throughout the year, an outdoor concert will be taking place on 11 November 2017 as the grand finale of Sungei Wang’s 40th Anniversary celebration. The long awaited Bukit Bintang outdoor concert is back by overwhelming demand from the public. To showcase the local music and dance scene, Sungei Wang have invited 40 local artistes and performers to grace their 40th Anniversary Live Concert. The concert showcases diversity from family band to local renowned rock band, Malaysia’s new idol from popular reality TV shows to well known duos and singers, not to mention the concert will also be infused with powerhouse dance group champions.

The concert is hosted by popular MY FM DJ – Emely Phoon & Phei Yong. Astro Battleground 2016 Champion, Red Lycans started the concert with an upbeat dance performance warming up the crowd for the show of the night. The concert continued with 2 Korean songs covers performed by the KPOP Vocal Champion, Erul Samah. The Malaysian Girls Group, Muse Girls followed and awed the crowds with two of their latest songs.

The first runner up of China reality show on Hunan TV, Meer Nash then performed a Malay and Mandarin song to showcase his talents to the crowds. Thereafter, Firex, Champion of Get Krazy KPOP Champion attracted the crowds with their KPOP dance cover. Nothing beats the family rock band sensation, Kozyy Band with their stunning and cute performance. The popular sibling duo, Nick Chung and Stella Chung performed their hit songs.

A cake cutting ceremony for Sungei Wang 40th Anniversary was then held. All the performers and Sungei Wang’s management were on stage for this ceremony. The concert was continued by the renowned Malaysia rock band, Mad August. They hyped the crowd with their composed songs. Afters, The Asia little diva, Jeryl Lee serenaded the public with her famous songs. Lastly the concert ended with songs performed by the popular Malaysian Pop Duo, FS (Fuying & Sam).
