These heavyweights are joined by SOi 55 Modern Thai Food, Embers Asian Grill, Qwenchers Juice Bar and more in a designer lifestyle showroom decked out by Kian Furniture within an industry heritage sawmill.
Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia, 2 November 2017 – The Steamship Merchants will take over Penang’s first sawmill, The Saw Emporium until Q1 2018, and transform the 1950 art-deco heritage building and godowns into a multi-concept dining destination with leading partners featuring top restauranteurs and bars from the region. Swallow @ The Saw Emporium opens on 10 November 2017 from 6 pm until late on Macallum Road within heritage enclave, the Seven Streets Precinct in Georgetown, near the upcoming Penang Arts District. The opening weekend begins at 10 am to late on 11 & 12 November for an exciting fun-filled experience in an unexpected location.
2017 MICHELIN Guide Singapore Bib Gourmand’s Chef Teppei Yamashita creates a special menu with Teppei Syokudo taking centrestage, while SOi 55 features contemporary interpretations while respecting the strong and fresh flavours of traditional Thai dishes. Clinching the win for Best Beer Bar at The Bar Awards 2017 in Kuala Lumpur just weeks ago, is TAPS Beer Bar, with craft bottles and taps from Scotland’s BrewDog, Japan’s Hitachino Nest Beer and America’s Rouge Ales, while Embers turns up the flames for the carnivores with slow-roasted BBQ meats ala All-American Steakhouses with Asian flavours. Beyond Average Beverages, Qwenchers brings a refreshing respite in Penang’s heat with a juice bar for the teetotallers, amongst others.
Apart from a repurposed 5-m long timbre dining table in the courtyard, salvaged sawmilling parts and wood from the former sawmill, Swallow @ The Saw Emporium is thematically styled as a lifestyle showroom with stunning designer pieces by Kian Furniture in the courtyard, covered terrace, lounges, bar and dining areas. There is a cosy setting for everyone within the green oasis set within the industrial heritage building with plants and materials sourced locally.
With a strong focus on constantly refreshing the dining event and providing a physical platform for strategic partners use the space as a showcase to the Penang community, Swallow @ The Saw Emporium will curate and feature dynamic programming and rotations with guest chefs’ kitchen takeovers, pop up kitchens with interesting and creative food concepts musicians, designers, craftsmen, community activities etc. , for the duration of the event until Q1 2018.
