Braised pork belly or dong po rou is an iconic traditional Chinese braised pork belly recipe of Hangzhou, created by Su Dong Po, a famous scholar, writer, poet, calligrapher, gastronome, and court official of the Song dynasty.
Pork belly is washed and cut into blocks. Then place it in a pot together with other spices like star anise, cinnamon stick and seasonings to enhance the taste of the pork belly. It is then stewed for a few hours till the pork belly is soft and tender. Once done, this delicate dish is served with steamed mantou bun.
