Kimball Offers Simple, Wholesome Yet Tasty Sahur Meal Solutions for Busy Mums

May 20, 2017 by StrawberrY Gal

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, when it is required to fast from sunrise to sunset.

It is also a time when Malay mothers can be at their busiest, as they juggle their daily household duties and careers, while fitting in Sahur preparations in the wee hours of the morning for their loved ones.

For first time mums who are new to preparing Sahur meals for kids there are also concerns if the prepared meal provides enough energy for the kids to get through the day, does it appeal to picky eaters and most pressingly, will it be ready, on the table and eaten before Sahur is over.

Kimball, a Malaysian culinary solutions brands with a heritage of over 40 years, understands the challenges of Malay mums, including waking up early to prepare meals during Ramadan, and has set out to provide meal solutions that will free-up time, add more taste while being affordable, so that mums can spend more time with their families.

For working mother of three, Pn Nur Yusnizah Yushof, Ramadan is joyous time where she can model good spiritual values for her children, but she finds that time management is the biggest challenge especially in getting Sahur meals ready. She generally cooks Sahur meals at home, because she has the peace-of-mind that meals are to the taste of her family, and provide the nutrition and energy that her family needs to complete their fast.

“My daughters are 14 and 12, and have been fasting for the past few years. Meal preparation for my eldest daughter’s first Sahur was really stressful for me because I wanted to give her appetizing food that would sustain her throughout the day. I didn’t sleep the night, and even had bought take-away just in case I couldn’t get the meal done on time. Insha’Allah, all went well. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for simple, hassle-free recipes for Sahur,” Pn Nur Yusnizah shared.

Understanding the challenges mums face during Ramadan especially in the meal preparation for Sahur, Kimball that has a wide range of sauces, pasta sauce and dry pasta has, teamed up with Chef Rohani Jelani to develop five simple and tasty Sahur recipes that cost around RM15 each that can feed a family of five.

Being a mother, Chef Rohani understands the need to come out with simple, hassle-free recipes that can be prepared the night before, which leaves cooking and plating to be done in the morning for convenience.

These recipes are specially created using Kimball products, ranging from rice, pasta to bread based dishes, such as the all-time favorite Kimball Stuffed French Toast, the ever-convenient Kimball One-Pot Hainanese Chicken Rice, the tasty yet simple Kimball Angel Hair with Chicken Mushroom Sauce, the traditional standby of Kimball Spicy Tomato Fried Rice and the power-packed, bite-sized Kimball Chicken BBQ Bun, all of which are hearty meals to fuel the family throughout the day.

The Kimball culinary solutions add to the wholesomeness and convenience of the dishes, for example using Kimball Angel Hair pasta instead of wet noodles is more nutritious, filling and healthier.

“I created these recipes to be simple and that they can be prepared the night before, and they taste just as good when heated up in the morning,” Chef Rohani said.

“I will definitely be using these Kimball recipes during Ramadan. Pn Rohani’s recipes are excellent because all the one pot meals save a lot of cooking and cleaning up time. My family’s are the Kimball One-Pot Hainanese Chicken Rice and the Kimball BBQ Chicken Buns. The Kimball sauces used definitely add to the flavor, and cut down on the prepping time as well,” she said.

According to Ms Tania Lee, the Category Manager, of Campbell Soup Southeast Asia Sdn. Bhd., Kimball understands the challenges faced by Malay mums, especially when preparing Sahur meals during Ramadan. The brand has developed these simple, wholesome and tasty recipes to give mums more times with their families, by freeing up time spent in the kitchen.

“For example, the Kimball Spicy Tomato Fried Rice can be prepared speedily. It is a wholesome meal, containing source of carbohydrate, protein, vitamins & minerals. And what is good is that all the Kimball Sahur meals that we created can easily feed a family of five for just RM15 or less.” Said Ms Lee.
