New Stress-Busting Retreats in Portugal

December 3, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Looking for a better way to cope with workplace stress? Perhaps a pioneering workshop that combines proven techniques for managing high pressure situations, with a blissful break in beautiful surroundings is the answer.

New for 2017, Six Senses Douro Valley is hosting a series of ‘rebalancing retreats’ with corporate wellness specialist Working in Balance in the spectacular setting of Douro Valley in Portugal. With an increased understanding of the role stress plays in both the workplace and at home, there has been a growing interest in stress-reduction holidays which combine educational workshops on managing stress with yoga, meditation and mindfulness.

The four-night Stress Free Success retreats by Working in Balance will take place in January and March 2017, and aim to educate guests about the negative effects of stress, how to reduce it and how to improve physical and psychological well-being. They include an individual wellness assessment, two hours of daily themed workshops and seminars, tai chi, meditation and yoga classes, as well as fitness activities and a relaxing daily massage. Key topics will include Managing Stress, Life Management and Health Body, Healthy Mind, with practical advice and tips along the way.

During the retreat, participants can also take time out to indulge in the resort’s facilities, including a variety of dining options, a wine library and terrace and an organic garden. The spa features 10 treatment rooms overlooking the resort’s gardens or the valley, the Nail Bar and Alchemy Bar.

Working in Balance Founder and Managing Director Toby Maguire said, “The aim of these new retreats is to provide enjoyable, practical and informative training for groups and individuals on how to bring attention to areas of their lives that are out of balance, as well as improve their physical and psychological well-being. The course has a particular emphasis on managing stress which has become so prevalent in Western society and is experienced by 80 percent of middle and upper management. It has been designed specifically for those wishing to take more control of their lives, manage stress and establish a better work-life balance.”

The Stress Free Success retreats at Six Senses Douro Valley take place from January 26 to 30, and then from March 26 to 30, 2017, with more planned throughout the year. The retreats cost from EUR 1,595 (GBP 1,400) per person, based on double occupancy and includes four nights’ accommodation with breakfast, set menu lunches and dinners, a wellness assessment, six Stress Free Success sessions with Toby Maguire, all group wellness and activity classes, plus three 60-minute signature massages. Flights to Oporto and airport transfers are not included but can be arranged.
