Tony Roma’s crowns champs of TR’s world first Lamb Ribs-Eating Contest

November 22, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

It was a face-off of gastronomical proportions at the finale of Tony Roma’s World First Lamb Ribs-Eating Contest 2016. Ten male and ten female finalists flexed their stomachs and focused their appetites as they competed for the title of the Ultimate Lamb Ribs-Eating Champion in Mahkota Parade, Melaka on 12 November. Another ten male ten female finalists from the Klang Valley competed for the same title at Tony Roma’s in IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on 13 November. Meanwhile, finalists in Johor, also consisting of ten males and ten females each gathered at KOMTAR JBCC on 19 November to vie for the same title.

The crowd was pumped in the heated competition and cheered the competitors on as they competed to gobble down a full slab of Tony Roma’s famed lamb ribs in the fastest time possible. With the scintillating aroma of grilled lamb in the air and BBQ sauce smeared all over their faces, female contestants had their challenge cut out for them – they had to finish Tony Roma’s lip-smacking lamb ribs – Roma rack in the fastest time too!

In Melaka, Muhd Amir Ayub set a time of five minutes and 13 seconds in the male category while in the female category, Mashaliza Ismail finished at three minutes flat to win the competition.

At IOI City Mall, Mohd Azriq Nafizi was crowned Champion and broke the world’s record in the men’s category with a time of three minutes and 24 seconds while Cheong Poh Leng grabbed the title in the female’s category at four minutes and 33 seconds.

Muhd Reza Putra became the Champion in the men’s category at five minutes and 28 seconds at JBCC KOMTAR while Siti Farhana Azmi grabbed the champion title in the female’s category at four minutes and 51 seconds at the same venue.

“This is the fourth time the Ribs-Eating contest as well as the first Lamb Ribs-Eating contest to be organized for our loyal customers and it is a show of thanks for their continuous support and kind patronage towards us for the past decade in Malaysia. I watched the contestants and the crowd who are true Tony Roma’s supporters and the champions really deserve their prize of year-long free meals at Tony Roma’s,” said George Ang; CEO of Grand Companions Sdn Bhd, the primary franchise holder of Tony Roma’s Malaysia.

“We wouldn’t have reached 10 years if it weren’t for our loyal fans’ enthusiasm towards our specialties, especially our legendary ribs,” he added.
