WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE YEE SANG BY GROUPON AND RUYI&LYN

February 5, 2016 By StrawberrY Gal - Food News Leave a Comment

To celebrate the auspicious year of the Monkey this Chinese New Year, Groupon today announced it has teamed up with Ruyi & Lyn Restaurant, Bangsar, to create the World’s Most Expensive Yee Sang AKA the #GrandYeeSang. This dish features premium ingredients like Australian abalone, Italian winter truffles and jello shots made with Dom Perignon Vintage champagne.

Retailing at a whopping RM16,888+, the super-decadent #GrandYeeSang is lavished with the freshest and most exotic ingredients meticulously selected by Ruyi & Lyn’s Corporate Executive Chef, James Ho. These ingredients were air-flown from various parts of the world to put an opulent twist to the dish, traditionally consumed to symbolise good luck, health, and prosperity.

Also known as the Prosperity Toss, the dish has been awarded the title of The Most Expensive Yee Sang by online world record site, RecordSetter.

Chef Ho said, “It was a very exciting journey for Groupon and Ruyi & Lyn but our goal was not just to include the world’s most expensive ingredients. Yee Sang has a huge cultural significance to Chinese Malaysians, so we knew we had to do it justice and ensure the taste matched its luxury price. I’m pleased to say that the weeks of experimentation in our kitchen has resulted in a dish quite worthy of its record-breaking title.”

Groupon Malaysia’s Head of Local Marketplace, Arvind Gunaseharan said, “Groupon loves celebrating milestones, and Chinese New Year is a big event on the Malaysian calendar. Everyone joins in the festivities, and that is quintessential to our rich multicultural diversity. What better way to put a twist on a unique Malaysian dish to usher in the Year of the Monkey?”

“Groupon prides itself with bringing people the best experiences in their city, so we’re happy to have partnered with Ruyi & Lyn for this world record attempt. We’re excited with James’ #GrandYeeSang creation and particularly envious of the lucky people who get to taste it, he said”
The RM16,888+ #GrandYeeSang

Traditionally comprising thin slices of raw fish, pickled vegetables and rice crackers, Groupon and Ruyi & Lyn’s Yee Sang features rare delicacies from around the world such as Australian dry eight head abalones, Black Winter truffles from Italy, French Osetra Sturgeon caviar, Japanese sea urchins (Uni), Blue Fin Otoro tuna belly, Botan-ebi sweet shrimp sashimi and French gold dusk powder. The dish is topped off with jello shots made with Dom Perignon Vintage 2005 champagne and Ruyi & Lyn’s signature plum sauce, made from scratch from the freshest plums. More than that, the dish features thinly sliced fresh vegetables flown from Japan – where farming techniques and perfect climate guarantees freshness and taste.

The dish took two weeks to develop in the Ruyi & Lyn kitchen, with Chef Ho experimenting with different ingredients to achieve the perfect taste and texture. For more information on the #GrandYeeSang, visit http://bit.ly/grandyeesang.
