DOUBLE CUPCAKE COMPETITION WITH APPEARANCE BY TV8 KING OF DESERTS

October 14, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

Creativity will take center stage where contestants challenge each other to a battle of imagination, artistry and skill during the ‘Double Cupcake Competition’. This competition is organized by Baker’s Choice Premium in conjunction with its grand opening here in Jalan Ipoh.

Contestants will be required to create the 2D or 3D topping for cupcake size 6 to 8cm using edible fondant or gum paste. The competition is open to all residing in Malaysia and results will be announced on 18 October 2014 during the grand opening. Three winners will walk away with cash prizes of RM500, RM350 and RM150, certificates and vouchers from Baker’s Choice Premium and 10 more will bag the consolation prizes consisting of hampers and vouchers.

Panel judges will include JS Leung Hong Kong – founder of Pandora Cake, Lyza Ghazali – founder/owner of RollyPops and one of the most renown instructors in Malaysia, Yoke Moy aka ‘Queen of Sugar Flowers’, Chef Eugene – founder of Myice Gumpaste and Fondant, Anissa Khan of the famed mini and Temaris cakes and Jay Wong – principle owner of Baker’s Choice Premium Outlet. Members of Media will be invited to select the press award where one winner will receive a hamper worth RM500 of bakery products.

According to Jay Wong, who is also the advisor of the Malaysian Bakery and Confectionery Association Malaysia, this competition is held in friendly spirit to boost the standard of cake decorating in Malaysia. ‘Malaysian cake decorators are notably gaining fame in Europe and Asia. Connoisseurs such as Kelvin Chua, Aerius Chang, Louis Ng, Sharil Shamsuddin have won many awards in the international competition. With the rise of these cake artistes, Malaysia will set the benchmark of sugar art standard in this region,’ he said. Jay Wong was also the judge for the Asia Cake Competition 2013 in Japan representing Malaysia and has organised Cake Challenge Malaysia 2013 and 2014 where many talented cake artists were discovered in these competitions.

Besides the competition, there will be a feast of plated dessert which will be prepared by TV8 – King of Dessert Finalists including Kang (the Champion), Woei Cheng (the runner-up) and the other four finalists from the top eight.

The competition, which enjoys sponsorship from heavy hitters Silikomart (Italy), Distribution Newwork (Hong Kong) and Toko Ani (Indonesia) is expected to draw interest from across all cake decorating enthusiasts particularly in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
