MALAYSIA’S LARGEST WELLNESS, LIFESTYLE, MUSIC AND DANCE FESTIVAL MAKES ITS DEBUT

September 17, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

An exciting weekend filled with wellness, lifestyle, yoga, dance and music is set to take place here at the Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside and the Marina Putrajaya this November. The Malaysian Urban Retreat Festival 2014 or MURFEST, which will take place from November 7- 9, 2014, will
showcase a gathering of well-renowned names and brands in the wellness, music and health industries.

MURFEST aspires to be Malaysia’s largest yoga, music and dance festival.
A rich and captivating experience like none other seen in the region is expected as the world’s leading yoga instructors, musical acts, inspiring speakers and exhibitors, will weave and showcase their expertise at the event.

Murfest 2014 Festival Founder and Director, Ms Shobie Malani said “This is the first time that such talents are seen on our shores. It would also kick start the country’s year-long festival which is expected to begin in January 2015. It will undoubtedly be the biggest such gathering and we expect this annual event to help promote healthy living among Malaysians through yoga and dance.”

“The Festival is all about fostering wellness through healing, yoga, music, dance and the many elements that surround it. Not only will it showcase the world’s leading yoga teachers, fitness facilitators, top musical acts, inspiring speakers and exhibitors all in one space, but will feature unique and exciting dance activities, routines and demonstrations for everyone to participate in. We invite everyone to feast your senses through a mind, body and soul experience at a true Urban Retreat. Come and be enthralled” she added.

MURFEST is aimed at creating awareness amongst Malaysians and participants from neighboring countries in the areas of wellness, fitness and healing while enjoying the weekend away to treat oneself. It also supports the call by Minister of Youth and Sports YB Tuan Haji Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, through Malaysia’s own Fit Malaysia programme, as a holistic retreat cum holiday destination.

Daytime workshops during the three-day festival will encompass almost 40 different classes to choose from the various categories comprising yoga, fitness, healing, music and dance. There will also be a Wellness and Healing Vendor Village that will promote ‘Made in Malaysia’ health and wellness products as well as alternative Indian, Malay and Chinese medicines.

Yoga workshops and healing therapies during the day will be conducted by world renowned practitioners like Manish Goyal from India, Rachael Fallon, Konstantin Miachin from Canada, Rebecca Pflaum and Cat Kabirafrom USA, not forgetting our very own homegrown Ninie Ahmad, Josephine Chan and Sandhya Manoj from Malaysia.

The Music and Dance elements of MURFEST will focus on a multi-disciplinary approach encompassing Latin, Afro, Cuban, Jazz, Folk and Malaysian styles. There will be exciting Drum Circles and percussion workshops, traditional and ethnic dance workshops, demonstrations by solo musicians and Belly Dancing, Capoeira and Zumba workshops. Performers include Shervin Boloorian from Iran showcasing Tama-Do (Way of the Soul), Jody Lloyd performing electronic vibrational healing sounds, Hannah Kamal from Malaysia showcasing Zumba, Jocelyn Gordon from Bermuda, Nancy Bakshy, an Iranian belly dancing performer and teacher extraordinaire, Mayur Vaidya and Sachin Shinde from India, who are both popular choreographers and teachers for a variety of dance forms.

The highlight of MURFEST 2014 is the URBANITE CONCERT at Marina Putrajaya on November 7 and 8, featuring a two-night concert of collective “world music” from different genres of bands and solo artists from around the world including Malaysian artistes Amir Yussof, Russell Curtis, Christian Theseira and AtiliaHaron. Other attractions in store for the participants are folk dances, modern dances, an urbanite bazaar and a food pavilion.

The URBANITE on Saturday 8th Nov will be promoting Malaysian Batik and encourages all who are coming and performing to wear some element of batik. This is to promote Malaysian Batik to the world.

This family oriented event also embraces and invites children to participate in the many different and unique programmes.

MURFEST 2014 is set to be a truly unique Malaysian event and hopes to be a source of inspiration and motivation to all participants to stay healthy, happy and self-enlightened.For more details, please check out www.murfest.com.
