“MAKE ME SMILE” CHARITABLE CAKES HELP SPREAD SMILES THIS MOTHER’S DAY AT THE RITZ-CARLTON, KUALA LUMPUR

April 24, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur, is celebrating this Mother’s Day by giving back and spreading smiles. As part of the group’s ‘Smile Asia Week’, the Hotel will be selling specially designed gift cakes in support of Operation Smile – an international charity that provides smile-giving surgery for children with cleft lips and palates.

Designed by the Hotel’s talented Pâtissier, Chef Tony Hoyle, “Make me smile” is a decadent chocolate creation, with rich orange accents. Discussing the inspiration for his cake design, Chef Hoyle commented: “Chocolate is a universal symbol for spreading happiness and everybody lovesn chocolate, especially children, so what better way to represent a project that aims to ‘give’ smiles,  than by creating this cocoa enriched treat that combines the wonderful flavours of both.

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or palate; one in ten die before their first birthday while those who survive often suffer severe feeding, speech, dental and hearing problems. Since 1982, Operation Smile has provided vital surgery to more than 200,000 children in 51  countries, simultaneously training thousands of medical professionals and equipping international centre with necessary equipment to foster long-term self-sufficiency.

Available online from April 7 to May 11, 2014, “Make me smile” cakes will be available for collection during Smile Asia Week (May 5-11, 2014) from the Carlton Gourmet on Level 1 of The Carlton Conference Centre. For every RM 950 raised, one smile-restoring surgery will be donated.

Each cake weighs 500gms and is priced at RM 55 net.  To purchase your cake and help put a smile on the face of a child with a cleft lip or palate, please visit www.smileasiaweek.org. For further information or enquiries, please call (603) 2142 8000 or email [email protected].
