ISLAND SHANGRI-LA, HONG KONG PRESENTS GLUTINOUS RICE DUMPLINGS IN DAINTY PACKAGING TO CELEBRATE THE TUEN NG FESTIVAL

April 25, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong presents a delectable range of glutinous rice dumplings from 5 May to 2 June 2014 to celebrate this year’s Tuen Ng Festival and heighten the spirit of the festivity.

Chef Ip Chi Cheung of the Michelin two-starred Summer Palace used the finest and most delicate ingredients to create three sumptuous glutinous rice dumplings that stay true to tradition, yet have a luxurious twist.  These include Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Abalone and Egg Yolk, Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Sweetened Red Beans and Bird’s Nest, as well as the new Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Assorted Mushrooms and Truffle Pesto.  A brand-new gift set containing all three dumpling varieties in tasting sizes is also available.

“A balanced and harmonious combination of fine ingredients and flavours is the key when crafting these rice dumplings.  I have particularly included a choice with mushrooms and truffle pesto for the health conscious,” Chef Ip said.

Apart from being the perfect festive treats to share with loved ones, the glutinous rice dumplings are also ideal gifts for business partners.  The hotel has custom-designed a sleek container that resembles a handbag-style box in Summer Palace’s signature red for the individual dumplings.  Also, a gold pyramid-shaped box resembling the form of a dumpling is created for the debut gift set to enhance its distinctiveness.
The Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Abalone and Egg Yolk and the Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Sweetened Red Beans and Bird’s Nest are priced at HK$258 each, while the Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Assorted Mushrooms and Truffle Pesto is priced at HK$168 each.  The gift set containing tasting-sized dumplings of all three varieties is priced at HK$388 each.

Guests can also enjoy the delicious rice dumplings for a good cause.  Proceeds from the sale of 200 gift sets will benefit Heep Hong Society – the hotel’s long-term charity partner and one of Hong Kong’s largest service providers of early intervention and education for children with special needs.
