One of the oldest mosque in Penang, The Kapitan Keling Mosque is a mosque built in the 19th century by Indian Muslim traders in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. It is situated on the corner of Lebuh Buckingham and Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling.
Kapitan Keling Mosque is attractive in design, the present building having been constructed in the 1930’s. It is a white coloured building with traditional open layout and geometrical shaped facade. The mosque is topped by Moghul style domes and there is an attractive minaret building within the mosque grounds.
Kapitan Keling Mosque is definitely tourist-friendly. To enter a mosque, female shall wear robe to cover up themselves (“tutup aurat” in Malay), and this mosque prepares robe for their visitors.
